Wild prints and doll clothes

I made this dress, and thought that the total look was stunning.  The dress is from Simplicity 1484 and was my second attempt at the dress.

Here is McKenna in the same dress outside by the flowers.

If you like the print and have enough fabric, why not experiment with making an outfit for your doll?  You may just be surprised by the results.

McKenna getting ready to watch the Kansas City Chiefs

McKenna,  just like everyone in this house, just LOVES to watch a good football game.  She really didn't have anything for game day, so I thought I would whip her up a little outfit in time for kickoff to support the home team.

McKenna's new shorts

McKenna got two new pair of shorts as well.  This pattern took me a bit to adjust and get right.  Both are made from a micro suede fabric.

Pink Shorts

Purple Shorts

I did make the white top as well.  I need to start making her some tops so she has more of a selection.  I know I wouldn't like having just 1 top to go with all my bottoms.

McKenna's new Tutus

McKenna needed a few more Tutus for her collection, so these were made on two different nights.

I like to call the first one her Christmas tutu.

And then there is a pink and green Tutu.  I love this color combination.

McKenna's new clothes

So, I have been playing around making McKenna some new clothes.  Just trying a few different things.  Thought I would take a few pictures - sounds simple right?  Getting the right lighting and pose is harder than I imagined it would be.  It will be a learning journey.

Here is McKenna in a skirt made from a carnival mask fabric.

Now here she is in her new candy corn skirt.

Of course I had to make the coordinating stripped skirt with candy corn waistband.

Free Standing Masquerade Mask for 18 inch dolls

So, I made McKenna a little skirt with some fabric that I had purchased which had the carnival style masks as the print.  I have been intending to make some skirts for a while.

After I finished the skirt, I remembered some mask embroidery designs that I had digitized a year or so ago, and thought one might be cute as a mask for my American Girl.

I had to adjust the size down, and make sure that the eye holes were where you could see her eyes.  This first mask is full face.  I think that any future ones I digitize will be half face.  I mainly wanted to see if it was possible.

I should have coordinated the color of this stitch out more with the colors in the fabric.  It was fun and I think unique.

American Girl Embroidered Apron (Take 2)

This is the second iteration of the chef's apron for American Girl dolls.

This one requires a larger than 5x7 hoop.  The Cupcake is about 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches, but the outline of the apron is larger than 5x7.

I think this is an improvement over the last iteration.

American Girl Embroidered Apron

Trying to incorporate some embroidery designs into things for American Girl Dolls.

Here is a first attempt at a mainly  ITH (in the hoop) project to create a chef's apron for the dolls.  This one is sized for 5x7 Hoops, there is a larger size for the 8x12 hoops as well.

Was wondering if it was worth the effort to continue to develop this line?

American Girl Doll Clothes - alternate skirt

I thought that this green fabric went with the pink from the Pretty In Pink outfit, so I started playing around with mixing and matching.

Why shouldn't McKenna, or any other American Girl, have a wardrobe of mix and match seperates?

American Girl Doll Clothes - Pretty in Pink

Here McKenna models her Pretty In Pink outfit.  I designed this cute little skirt and top when I saw the fabric as I thought it would be a stand out outfit.  What do you think, does McKenna rock this or what?

Here, McKenna models another one of her suits.  The slacks for this suit are a dark green micro-suede while the jacket is made from a boucle of various greens, gold and black.

Here is a cute pair of Owl Pajamas that I made for McKenna.

Another pair of these went to a special little girl in South Dakota.  A special little blanket was made with flannel with yellow on one side and pink on the other to coordinate with the colors in the pajamas.  The blanket was further customized with the doll's name embroidered in the opposite color on each side.

This is another pair of simple pajamas that I made for McKenna.  The fabric is a pink flannel that has a bit of silver sparkle in it.  Super cute.

I just finished making this wrap skirt out of a wonderful red corduroy.  The shrug has a wonderful red and gold coordinating fabric.

McKenna's Designer Suit

McKenna could not go around in her pajamas all day, so I started to expand her wardrobe.

My McKenna is a girl on the go, with tons of things to accomplish.  She needs fun clothes and more refined clothes as well.

I made McKenna a designer suit.  The slacks are from a darker blue-gray micro-suede. The jacket is from some boucle scraps that I had.

If you would want this little suit for your doll, be sure to click on the link to go view.

American Girl Doll Clothes

Sometimes, I wonder if I am reverting to my childhood.  Other times, I am quite sure that I am.

I had heard about the 18 inch dolls, and had a few friends that had purchased them for children or grand children and enjoy sewing outfits for them.

Last year, some out of state relatives were in town to visit, and we hit the big mall where the American Girl store is located in town.  I was BLOWN away.

I had purchased a doll from one of the chain retailers, but could never 'get into' her.  The other members in the family called her 'creepy'.  I still think she is nice, but she didn't speak to me.

Then I entered the doors of the American Girl Store.  I fell in love instantly.  My oh my, which one did I want to select?  Did I really want to buy one?  I looked at all of the dolls in the store numerous times.   We left to continue our shopping and hit the Lego store.

I knew I wanted to try my hand at sewing the clothes, and possibly sell some at craft fairs and the like.

Finally, my husband insisted that if I was going to sew clothes for the American Girl doll, that I had to have one.  No substitutes.

Back to the mall we went, and a couple of hours passed before I made my selection.  I wanted a Kit doll.  The name had a special meaning to me, and I loved her short hair.

I looked at all of the boxed Kit dolls, to find the perfect one for me.  My husband insisted that we talk to one of the sales associates to see if we could find a face and hair but select the eye color we wanted.  The nice lady explained that the other dolls were as they were that you couldn't select different eyes than what were shown.  Back and forth looking at a few dolls.

Then something about a specific McKenna caught my eye.  I placed the perfect Kit back on the shelf, and selected my perfect McKenna.  I have been a very happy owner of a McKenna doll since that day.

McKenna needed some pajamas, so I created her some out of a breast cancer awareness flannel.

I made two pair of these jammies, and one is available to be purchased.
